About Madonna
While most alpacas fleeces begin to coarsen as they age, Madonna's has stayed almost the same. In fact, after producing 6 crias, she still has a very fine fleece.
Madonna has quite the personality. If you were to visit our farm, Madonna would follow you around and want you to rub her neck. If you walk away, she'll follow you. If you start to pay attention to something else, she'll place her entire body longways in front of you so you can't miss her. If another alpaca comes over to try to get some attention, Madonna will block them out of the way.
However, when she is pregnant, forget all of the above. She goes from aloof, to grouchy, to a witch until she gives birth. When she goes into labor, she expects you to come help her, but as soon as she is confident that all is safe and well - well, you better back off. After about 2 weeks, she becomes nice all over again, as though nothing ever happened and she is back to following you around so that you rub her neck.
Once, many years ago, Madonna had a violent reaction to a drug that was given to her after giving birth. We feared for her life and Don spent the night with her in the barn. Madonna slept with her head on Don's shoulder. Thankfully, by morning she was back to normal. When she realized her newborn cria was fine and she was out of danger she so graciously let Don know his services were no longer needed, thank you. Madonna spit on him.
