About Kodiak
Kodiak was an early fall cria (alpaca baby), born in late September 2006. Since then, he has grown up to be quite the stud. He is a big, strong, big-boned fellow, weighing just short of 200 lbs. A far cry from the photo on the left of Kodiak's first steps.
Kodiak's mother (dam), Sarah, was a very protective mother and a worrier at that. Whenever Kodiak was out of sight, Sarah would go into a frenzied panic, humming loudly while she dashed around searching for her precious baby. It took several months until Sarah did not come running over to protect her baby from anyone who got close to him.
Well, that is long in the past and Kodiak lives with the other boys at Pax
River Alpacas. And, while boys like to fight and tussle, Kodiak is not one to be picked on. The other boys seem to respect his big size and realize that if they go beyond playful wrestling, they could get hurt.
Kodiak alway has had exceptional fleece. He was shown several times, and each time, without fail, when the alpaca judge opened Kodiak's fleece, they always let out a big, "Wow!"
When he was a cria, Kodiak's fiber looked like tight "jeri" curls. He still sports a lovely fiber architecture and a micron count (average fiber diameter) of 20.1 at age 4. This means he has a very soft fleece that can be worn comfortably next to the skin. Not bad!!
