About Belle
What can we say about Belle, except that she is a character. She is somewhat of a loner, but seems to think she owns the farm. She runs up to the fence to greet our visitors, but I suspect her main goalis to advise them thatshe is in charge. Belle is almost everyone's favorite. She is quite lovely and also has a rather unique personality.
If Belle were a human, I'm convinced she would always have a toothpick in her mouth. She loves to chew on sticks.
Belle often forgets she is an adult alpaca and runs, twists, jumps and plays chase with the crias (babies). She doesn't care if she is in late pregnancy. When she wants to jump around and play, well, by golly she will.
Although alpacas are herd animals and hate to be alone, Belle must not have received the memo. She is quite independent and does what she wants, when she wants to. The down side of that is that if you try to herd her into the barn, she won't come. But, if you herd everyone else in and ignore Belle, she'll come on her own volition. The key is to make her think it was her idea.
My cousin, Linda, who was ill with lung cancer for 8 years, adored Belle. We had a hat made for Linda out of Belle's fleece when she lost her hair from her chemo treatments. Then a scarf from Belle's fleece followed several years later. Belle can be cantankerous at times, but Linda never wanted to believe that. As far as she was concerned, Belle was an angel who could do no wrong.
